The best-selling soundtrack of cult classic 60s film The Sound of Music is coming to London this weekend with a public singalong at Waterloo Station.

Organised by The Community Brain (TCB), a non-profit based in Kingston, the free event on Saturday, 6 December will celebrate the 60-year anniversary of the musical drama.

First pressed by British music label Decca in New Malden, the soundtrack of The Sound of Music would go onto top the charts in Britain.

The album was the best-selling in the UK in 1965, 1966, and 1968 for a total of 70 weeks, boasting hits like 'Maria', 'Do-Re-Mi', 'Climb Ev'ry Mountain', and the titular track 'The Sound of Music'.

TCB celebrated the film's six-decade milestone with a similar singalong in Decca Records' former hometown of New Malden earlier this year, drawing in a crowd dressed as nuns and other characters from the film with renditions of the iconic alpine tunes in front of a three-storey banner hanging from a multi-storey car park.

The non-profit hopes this second, grander gathering will introduce even more people to the area's connection to the world-renowned production: part of its goal of 'giving people "permission" to be brilliant' and to help people foster a sense of belonging and ownership within their own local communities.

60 Years of the Sound of Music singalong will take place this Saturday, 6 December at the station's piano near Platform 22 and The Sidings leisure complex.

The family-friendly event is free to the public with no booking required, but attendees are encouraged to 'perhaps even dress for the occasion as a nun, or any other character from the film'.

Two performances are to take place throughout the day, starting at 11:30am and 12:30pm. However, those looking to take part are encouraged to arrive a little earlier at 11:15am.

Some of the top hits from The Sound of Music have been included in the event's setlist, including:

  • The Sound of Music
  • Sixteen Going On Seventeen
  • My Favorite Things
  • Do-Re-Mi
  • Edelweiss
  • So Long, Farewell
  • Climb Ev'ry Mountain

Further details regarding the event can be found on The Community Brain's website here.
