A Kingston-based non-profit is set to host a fundraiser for Nepal next week following devastating floods which has today (Tuesday, 8 September) seen the country's death toll reach 1,357.

Namaste Kingston's Nepal Fundraiser will take place at Hollyfield School in Surbiton from 6.30pm on Friday, 18 September.

The evening will include a light dinner as well as prayers, Bhajans & Kirtans in support of those affected by the floods in Nepal, and 100% contributions will go directly to flood relief efforts in Nepal.

Tickets to the event can be bought and donations to the fundraiser can be made via Namaste Kingston's website here.

Speaking about the event, Namaste Kingston's Founder Shraddha told Nub News: "This one is deeply personal for me.

"Just a few weeks ago, I undertook the Kailash Yatra, travelling through Gyrong–Rasuwa, crossing the same border checkpoint and staying overnight in Rasuwa village.

"I met the beautiful people who live there — the lovely ladies and smiling young girls who welcomed us and cooked for us, Karma, our cheerful border coordinator, and the Sherpas who looked after us throughout our 10-day journey.

"Today, many of those people are gone. Their homes, families and livelihoods have been swept away.

"I was there just weeks ago. I saw those smiles. I sat in those homes. I shared their food.

"So, seeing these images and videos is incredibly difficult to process. Please join Namaste Kingston in supporting this fundraiser. 100% of the proceeds will go towards Nepal flood relief through Rotary Surbiton.

"On 18th September, I will attempt to cook the traditional Nepalese dishes taught to me by the wonderful ladies we have lost — in their memory.

"And if you can't join us, please donate whatever you can for the people who welcomed us with open hearts."
