A new betting shop is opening in Kingston town centre.

Star Sports will welcome customers at its Eden Street branch at the end of the month.

Signs advertising its arrival were spotted yesterday (13 September.

The store replaces the old William Hill bookies on Eden Street and is based at numbers 14 to 16.

Star Sports bills itself as "the UK's leading luxury bookmaker" and was founded in 1999.

It is mainly an online bookies but has 14 stores in England including 6 in London.

William Hill currently has almost 1,500 betting offices across the UK, including one on Kingston's Castle Street.

But the bookies had to close 700 of its stores in 2019 and a further 119 stayed shut after the first lockdown as the covid-19 pandemic hit high streets hard.
