A ceremony at KingsGate Church on Saturday, 21 March put women's courage and resilience in the spotlight, in a bid to raise awareness and tackle violence against women and girls.

The Silent No More Awards Night brought together survivors, residents and community organisations from across South West London and Surrey to reflect on the impact of abuse and highlight the importance of support and community action.

The event was a powerful showcase of the strength and resilience of the women who have survived abuse, the 'Pearls', expressed through art, photography, performances and storytelling.

They bravely shared their personal journeys through various creative mediums, and their moving accounts underscored the critical need for support and for challenging the stigma surrounding domestic abuse.

'Pearls' from previous years also reflected on the lasting impact the project has had on their lives, showing how creative expression and community support can empower survivors and help build confidence and change.

Councillor Sabah Hamed, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care and Public Health, said: "Kingston Council is committed to ending violence against women and girls, and ensuring people with lived experience of abuse are appropriately supported and their voices heard through projects such as Silent no More.

"Four years ago, we became a White Ribbon accredited organisation, and last year we launched our first Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy, co-produced with survivors from our survivors forum - many of whom are closely involved in the Silent No More event.

"Through working together and sharing these inspiring stories we can raise awareness of women's safety issues and build a safer Kingston for all."
