A local photography club is appealing for new members in and around Kingston as its activities ramp up once more following the pandemic.

At over 130 years old, Kingston Camera Club (KCC) is one of the longest established photographic societies in the UK, formed by a small group of friends back in 1893.

The club has faced a number of challenges in recent years, like accommodating lockdown restrictions and sourcing a new home after losing its long-established Kingston venue.

However, with its new home at St Andrew's Church Hall secured and its diligent weekly Zoom meetings coming to an end, KCC is once again looking for more members to fill its ranks to help reestablish its genre-specific interest groups.

These span a number of popular categories, like architecture, sport, portraiture, and wildlife.

One of the club's senior members, Sue Buller, said: "[We] are happy to report the club is now regularly welcoming new members.

"This is proving to have a beneficial effect, with the new photographers providing fresh ideas and enthusiasm."

One such example is the introduction of new photographic tools, with new members using ever-improving smartphones and drones to capture different perspectives not possible with a traditional camera.

Members submit their photos as prints or digital images to regular competitions throughout the year, with the club hosting three different experience levels to keep them fair and friendly.

An experienced judge is always on hand to provide constructive feedback and ratings at the Monday evening sessions, giving the members plenty to discuss over their customary evening coffee break.

"If you have a keen interest in photography, you are welcome to visit us for two meetings to see if Kingston Camera Club is for you," added Ms Buller.

"Don't be shy! We are a friendly club and you will be assured of a warm welcome."

Kingston Camera Club will be showcasing a number of prints from its members from 11am until 4pm on Saturday 8 June at Ham Fair, where potential members can also learn more about the club itself.
