Kingston Council is encouraging communities of the borough to submit their applications for street parties in celebration of the Coronation of His Majesty the King.

King Charles III will be crowned alongside The Queen Consort in May 2023 where an extended bank holiday weekend will run from 6th to 8th May, offering a chance for Kingston communities to mark the historical event.

Cllr Roger Hayes, Portfolio Holder for Community Engagement, said: "We are proud to be the oldest Royal Borough, with such a rich and varied history. Kingston crowned seven Saxon Kings of England over one thousand years ago, which gives us a strong connection to Britain's royal history.

"Whether you are planning to host a big street party or share a cup of tea with a neighbour, Kingston's community spirit will undoubtedly be at the heart of celebrations once again."

Typically small in scale, street parties are attended by local residents and held on residential streets that include a road closure.

Parties being held on private land such as driveways or in front of gardens do not require an application but guidance can be found on the council website here.

Deadlines for street party applications for the King's Coronation is 14 April 2023, the link to apply can be accessed here.
