How stressful is Kingston upon Thames for commuting?

By Eli Haidari 6th Sep 2022

Despite boasting the world's 12th busiest metro system, more journeys around London are taken by car than any other form of public transport, according to Transport for London. In 2021, it became the world's most congested city for traffic in the world.

The average London commute is one-third longer than the UK as a whole, according to the Traders Union Congress, while a London City Airport report shows that one in three peak-rail-hour rail travellers have to stand up.

With this in mind, it is no wonder Londoners find their journey to work stressful and dread the morning and evening commute.

A new study by Resume.io using a sentiment analysis tool, examined Twitter data to determine where travel to and from work causes the most anxiety within the capital.

The map above shows that six of the ten boroughs with the highest amount of stress commute-themed Tweets are south of the River Thames, even though there is twice as many boroughs in the north overall.

Kingston upon Thames ranked 8th with 39.76% of users conveying stress-related Tweets.

Lewisham was ranked the most stressful borough for commuting, with 42.54% of work journey-themed tweets displaying stress.

This was shortly followed by Harrow (41.96%) and Bromley (41.67%).

Specifically focusing on south west London, the royal borough of Kingston ranked third with Sutton (40.32%) coming in at second and Croydon (40.38%) taking top spot.
