Co Theatre, an international female-led theatre company, is bringing one of its hit productions to Kingston this month, as part of Creative Youth's upcoming FUSE International festival.

A cast of three – Aylin Rodoplu, Tara McMillan, Gabriela Mahé – describes The Womb as "an absurd play about the absurd things that women have been going through since the beginning of the world".

Over its 45 minute runtime, the production's cast of three – Aylin Rodoplu, Tara McMillan, Gabriela Mahé – tell a bizarre story of three lost women in a place they can never leave.

"The Womb is an absurd play about the absurd things that women have been going through since the beginning of the world," describes the cast.

The show had its debut at East 15 Acting School in November last year and has since gone professional, travelling across several fringe festivals internationally over the summer of 2024.

Using witty, fast-paced dialogue, along with an original 'techno-atmospheric' score composed by its writer, the production draws parallels between our world and The Womb, all told through the eyes of three women who first went there to forget their pasts.

The play's 27 short scenes, each explore a different theme such as sexism, misogyny, patriarchal norms, and more.

Describing the show, cast member and writer Aylin Rodoplu said: "The Womb. This is a place where no one knows the address, but everyone knows how to get there. This is a place where no one knows what it is, but everyone is familiar with it.

"This is a place where no one knows if it's real, but everyone knows what they feel is real. Maybe not everyone, but every woman. Women come here to forget. But can they? Can they forget the things that made them end up in this place?"

The Womb will be performed at Rose Theatre Studio in Kingston as part of Fuse International on 29 June 2024, 7pm, with tickets available here.
