Chelsea women's football team spread Christmas cheer at Kingston Hospital
Women's Super League leaders, Chelsea, visited children and teenage patients at Kingston Hospital to bring gifts and spread Christmas cheer.
The players delivered specially prepared Christmas goodie bags to the young patients on the Sunshine and Dolphin wards, accompanied by their two beloved mascots, Stamford and Bridget – a pair of friendly lions – who helped the young patients to engage in some fun and interactive games as part of the visit.
Paediatric Matron, Paul Truesdale, said: "Being in hospital at Christmas can be difficult, especially for children, so to have Chelsea Women and their mascots visit is a wonderful gesture of goodwill."
A teenage outpatient, who managed to score a goal against Lionesses, and Chelsea's goalkeeper, Hannah Hampton during the visit, said: "It was fun, and I enjoyed myself.
"I play wing for a boys' team on a Saturday, so this was very unexpected and fun.
Chelsea Foundation CEO, Laura Cordingley, said: "We're thrilled to be able to bring some festive cheer and show the children that we're thinking of them during the Christmas season.
"Our mascots Stamford and Bridget were excited to join the children on the ward and play games. It was great to see them putting a smile on the children's faces."
The visit comes as part of the club's ongoing commitment to community outreach, particularly during the holiday season.
Every year Kingston Hospital Charity works with local organisations to ensure all children and adults have a gift to unwrap on Christmas Day. This year they are sourcing a total of 420 gifts for adults and 50 gifts for children from local organisations.
