Creative Youth's October Open Call exhibition, 'Black Chorus: A Symphony of Visual Art', began yesterday, Thursday 3 October, exhibiting Black artists from various visual art disciplines.

This exhibition takes ownership of and reflects the multiplicity of Black identities, cultural narratives and experiences throughout the diaspora in order to uplift and celebrate narratives that have often historically been under or misrepresented in the art world.

The exhibition also runs alongside Creative Youth's soloist Chisara Vidale who is debuting her exhibition 'Passing Through'.

'Passing Through' is an exhibition of a collection of watercolours and textile works made by Vidale throughout 2023 and 2024.

These works are part of a series of works that tenderly depict intimate moments of interaction between horses in dream-like landscapes, imbued with an otherworldly sense of light and energy.

Her use of colour reflects a feeling of wonder that takes hold whilst outdoors, the pink of late summer sunsets fills the trees, and the moving patterns of water flow over the bodies of horses and the hills.

Speaking about the exhibition, Creative Youth's Programmes Manager Chiyana Ankhrah told Kingston Nub News: "'Black Chorus: A Symphony of Visual Art' exhibits artwork from Black artists across a range of disciplines to spotlight the individual voices contributing to the stories within the Black diaspora.

"It's important to me that this exhibition, and in turn the space, was used to celebrate Black artists as we're often overlooked or have our voices coopted, despite our massive contribution to the arts and culture on a global scale."

She continued: "Black Chorus makes space for these voices to take full ownership of their bodies of work and the stories they tell to ensure that they are seen, heard and appreciated."

The exhibition is running until Saturday 12 October at FUSEBOX in Kingston, which is open from Wednesday – Saturday from 11am-6pm, and entry is free.
