Major changes to Kingston's parliamentary constituency which could see some residents voting for an MP in Wimbledon have been proposed.

Plans for a shake-up of England's constituency boundaries were revealed this morning (8 June) by the Boundary Commission for England.

If approved, the changes will result in new boundaries for Kingston and Surbiton, so it no longer includes Old Malden and part of Motspur Park.

These areas will instead join Wimbledon which is represented by Conservative MP Stephen Hammond.

Kingston and Surbiton is also set to also gain some residential streets in North Kingston which are currently part of Richmond Park and represented by Sarah Olney MP.

Across the UK, 90% of English constituencies are set to get boundary changes and the number will increase from 533 to 534 if the plans are approved.

Members of the public have been invited to give their feedback on the new boundaries and can do this on the website HERE .

The public consultation ends on August 2 2021 so don't delay if you want to have your say.

There will also be two more consultation rounds in 2022 and then the Commission will look at the evidence and decide its final recommendations.

These will be presented to Parliament in July 2023.

Tim Bowden, Secretary to the Boundary Commission for England, said: "Today's proposals mark the first time people get to see what the new map of Parliamentary constituencies might look like.

"But they are just the Commission's initial thoughts.

"Help us draw the line to make the number of electors in each Parliamentary constituency more equal.

"Each constituency we recommend is required by law to contain between 69,724 and 77,062 electors, meaning there will be significant change to current boundaries.

"We want to hear the views of the public to ensure that we get the new boundaries for Parliamentary constituencies right."
