A plan to build 60 town centre homes on the site of the Kingston Wilko building on Clarence Street has been revealed.

In a leaflet distributed to local residents, property developers BMOR outlined their proposal to extend the building by three floors to make space for the new homes, some of which will be affordable.

The building's retail space, currently home to the Kingston branch of household goods store Wilkinsons, would be reduced to the ground floor and the basement.

A new entrance on Old London Road would also be added.

The Kingston Society has been invited to speak with the developers.

In a post on their website the Society said: "Initial responses are that the number of affordable homes are not specified, the dwellings seems very small but that the extension generally treats the building well."
