Staff at a Surbiton care home enjoyed a well-deserved week of treats including 'laughter yoga' and a Caribbean-themed party during the home's Staff Wellbeing Week last month.

The Royal Star & Garter treated workers at its Surbiton care home to activities such as tai chi, mindfulness and Indian head massage during the week which ran from 26 to 30 April.

Staff also received free haircuts, eye care advice from Specsavers and listened to talks addressing pandemic fatigue and mental health.

The week ended with a Caribbean-themed party and barbecue, paid for with a fund that included generous contributions from appreciative relatives of the residents that the care home looks after.

Touchingly, the son of a resident who died earlier this year donated money for a steel band to play at the barbecue in memory of his mother.

Staff also took part in a special dance recital at the event and were given a goody bag by the care home charity.

Talking about her staff, Home Manager Helena Maher said: "This is just a small token of thanks for all their courage, commitment and hard work, especially during the pandemic, when we've faced some really tough and demanding times.

"It's a small gesture when you consider all they do. They are amazing and deserve it."

Anna, a Nurse at the Home, said: "I've been to laughter yoga, had an Indian head massage, shoulder massage, and spoken to the optician.

"It's been a really nice week. It's always nice to be appreciated, and we really enjoyed being pampered and spoiled."

The Royal Star and Garter is a charity which runs care homes for veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia.

The charity runs care homes in High Wycombe and Solihull and these will also be holding Staff Wellbeing weeks.
