200 THOUSAND POUNDS worth of jewellery has been stolen from the home of a vulnerable Surbiton resident by two male burglars who posed as builders.

The men wore high visibility jackets and said they had received reports of water leaks in homes in the area.

The pair distracted the victim as they stole the jewellery, which is said by Kingston police to be of "significant sentimental and monetary value."

The incident happened last month and police are investigating.

In a statement yesterday, Kingston Police said: "In December of last year, at an address in Surbiton, a victim was burgled after two males took advantage of the homeowner's trust.

"Wearing high visibility jackets they entered after claiming to be builders working in the area who have had reports of water leaks in homes.

"Believing their story, they stole jewellery items of significant sentimental and monetary value whilst distracting the vulnerable owner.

"The investigation is continuing, but we would like to share some photos in case someone has tried to sell or offer these items to you.

"We realise that the photos are not the highest of quality but hope they will jog someone's memory so that we can catch these criminals.

"If you can offer any helpful information, please do let us know by calling 101 quoting reference 0413287/21.

"If you are offered these items, please do not purchase them as they have significant sentimental value to the rightful owner.

"Our thanks are as always in advance."
