Lucid Waters art exhibit at 55 High Street, Hampton Wick, KT1 4DG

About the show

Lucid Waters is a show by emerging artist Nina Stallwood in Hampton Wick's new pop-up art exhibition space RuptureXibit.

Nina has been the artist-in-residence at the space for a week and will have an open studio tonight, Friday 16 July from 5pm to 8pm, before her show closes on 17 July.

In the gallery above are two examples of Nina's astounding oil paintings which bring water, waves and ocean scenes to life.

In a comment on her pieces outside the gallery's window, Nina wrote: "Water has the power to soothe and terrify.

"These qualities align with the myriad feelings encountered particularly during transitional points in life."

Nina's paintings are influenced by her childhood in Australia, where water was "ever-present," and its role in shaping her sense of home after she left Sydney.

Hampton Wick's new exhibition space

The show takes place at RuptureXibit, which was set up in January 2021 as an affordable, Covid-safe space for emerging and established artists to show their work

Artist Kate Howe set the gallery up, transforming an old shopfront on the high street into place to artists to work 'in residence' and display their talents at a time when many shows had to be cancelled.

Her website, Kate Howe Studios , states: "Kate launched RuptureXIBIT as a space to help artists have a place to experiment with new ways of working or installing work.

"RuptureXIBIT is also used as a traditional exhibition space and this summer is home to make up shows for artists who have had their exhibitions cancelled due to COVID.

"For the summer of 2021, Kate is sharing this space at no cost to artists all over London."
